Trip to London

On Thursday our college took a trip to London to experience and see the various galleries on offer in the big city. I personally went to the V&A to see the 'Masterpieces of Chinese Painting' exhibition. It featured historic and revolutionary works between the dates of 700 and 1900, showcasing the origins of Chinese Painting and the many key changes of style and subject. It was truly breathtaking, seeing these works first-hand has inspired me and taught me the methods to creating a traditional Chinese Painting. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take any photos or sketches, although the memory I have of the experience will stay with me.

I also took the time to see a few cultural areas, namely Chinatown, which was amazing. It was as if stepping into another world. This has again inspired me to create from what I saw, and I have taken some newspapers which I believe will make for excellent collage materials.

Lastly I went to The National Gallery to see the Michael Landy exhibition Saints Alive. To say I have briefly heard of the artist, I was very impressed with the work. It was an inspiration of religious, painting of Saints; which brought him to create huge, sculptural/installation works that were interactive to the public. From my view each piece had a message to convey. They embody the sounds and reactions of what actually happened in those events.
